Little Holmby’s borders are Hilgard Avenue, Sunset Boulevard, Beverly Glen, and Wilshire Boulevard. There are 995 Single Family Homes in Little Holmby Hills.

East of Beverly Glen is Holmby Hills with some of the largest estate properties in Los Angeles, and the Los Angeles Country Club. South of Wilshire is the Wilshire Cooridor and Westwood. North of Sunset is Bel Air, and west is UCLA.

Janns development corporation, in partnership with department store magnant Arthur Letts, developed Holmby Hills in 1925.

Holmby Hills was named after Arthur Letts summer vacation home in Northamptonshire England, Holdenby (also pronounced ‘Holmby’) Lodge.

Holmby Hills has English inspired street names. A few examples: Strathmore Drive, Comstock Avenue, Dalehurst Avenue, Westholme Avenue, Woodruff Avenue.

To attract potential buyers to Holmby Hills and thier adjacent development Westwood, the Janss corporation donated 385 acres of their 3,296 acre Wolfskill ranch tract to the University of California to build UCLA. Janss sold the 385 acreage for $1 million, giving the University a $3 million dollar gift. Within days of announcing a new campus $1 million dollars worth of lots sold.

Holmby Hills is 400 acres. The original offering had lot sizes ranging from three-quarters of an acre, to some as large as nine acres, selling between $17,000 and $30,000 at the time. Unfortunately, Arthur Lett’s passed away in 1923 of pneumonia before seeing Holmby Hills take shape.

Holmby Hills has gentle rolling hills and wide mature tree lined streets. Warner Avenue Elementary is located in the heart of Holmby Hills, and is one of the best public elementary schools in Los Angeles. This is a great neighborhood for families, with strong community, great schools, big grassy yards, and sidewalks.
